My last day in the field! Scouting mission for value chain dev’t project. Visited a woman owned transformation center 10 km outside of Kinzau Mvuete. It was an amazing day, made even more amazing by my Mayombe Model Forest guides. Eagerly awaiting Seke-Banza’s Model Forest project and on the look out for public and or private donors!
Clarisse’s NTFPs are the first line of Model Forest products expected to be marketed by the Mayombe Model Forest. We can expect excellent plantain chips, quality honey and a variety of flours made from plantains, sweet potatoes, manioc and taro. Of course all these products are 100% organic! Teas and a variety of fruit juices also under development ;)
We just arrived in the city of Kinzau Mvuete. One of 5 sites involved in the construction of the Mayombe Model Forest. I am very excited to find out what the local Mayombe Model Forest members hope to accomplish with a bit of funding for an eco- friendly sustainable development project. As Kinzau Mvuete is the epicenter of commercial activity for rural farmers (particularly women) I hope that their proposal focuses on the development of non-timber forest products.
